Yes, this happened. It was a breakfast bar, but still a cool connection. Nagin Cox, systems Engineer for the Mars Science Laboratory Project was also in Kuwait through a different US Embassy incentive. I’d been told a NASA scientist was there, and she happened to wear a NASA t-shirt to breakfast at the hotel, so I introduced myself and we had lunch later. Really interesting the diversity of ways the embassy seeks to impact overseas communities. She was there to give talks on science related careers, the space program, and more. I am actually very impressed by the variety of positive and subtle connections the embassies seek to make with the intent of community impact to make a difference where needed. They sent her also out to Al Jahra to talk to the teens about science and engineering careers. Also great that they invited a woman scientist!
